Online Data Analysis

This analysis tool functions similarly to a Microsoft Excel PivotTable. You can use this tool to perform basic exploratory analyses of the data, but for more complex analysis we suggest downloading the complete dataset.
General instructions: (click to show/hide)
  • Drag-and-drop fields to use them as rows or columns in the resulting table. "majVotes" and "minVotes" are selected by default, showing the number of cases with each given combination of majority and minority votes.
  • Click on a field to view and filter its possible values (e.g. to exclude outliers).
  • Click on the display type in the upper left corner to select various kinds of visualization. "Table" is selected by default.
  • Click on the aggregation in the upper middle ("Count" by default) to select the aggregation to be displayed in each cell of the pivot table. For example, you could select "Average" and "partyWinning" to show whether appellants or respondents tend to win, on average, for any given combination of majority and minority votes.
  • To download tabular data, select "TSV Export" in the display type list in the upper left corner, then copy and paste the resulting table into Excel or a text editor.
  • Figures may be downloaded as a PNG file by clicking the camera icon () in the upper right of the chart area.
